Missions of HSAs/QHSAs

A technical mission

The HSA is responsible for the cleanliness of the premises, cleaning rooms, bathrooms, treatment rooms, etc.

He must respect the hygiene measures and the prevention of biocontaminations.

A social mission

The HSA, in his functions, is also called to sociabilize patients/residents.

Thus, it participates in the distribution of meals and can help patients/residents to feed themselves. He is also called upon to transport patients from their rooms to treatment rooms.

Similarly, he may participate in collective outings.

He can therefore establish a relationship with patients/residents. This is often important for them: he takes them out of their isolation, can reassure them, entertain them, and so on.

Good to know: missions may vary by assignment. For example, in the operating room, the work will be largely focused on hygiene. In contrast, in a gerontology department, the social aspect will be very important.
